WAKE UP!

i spent the eveing watch and 20/20 sepcial on postituing on america.
women who had nothing, treated as nothing.

i cried this afternoon watching a news report on a man who was escaping china just so he could pracitce his religon freely

im tired of creating lies. i'm tired of my writigns contributing to nothing.
they don't save lives.
they can't stop a bullet
they can't bring a family back together separtated by war

we deluid our selfs everyday.
turn ourselfs off to the real world slowly

through ssubstances like drugs, food, tv, internet, computer, video games, booze

we turn our selfs off.
we stop caring

and people in my profession hep do this.

every movie
every TV progroam
most plays

we administer toxins so you stop thinging about your life and the lives of others.
and i can't do it any more

i hate that my play Macbeth was choosen and perfomed
i hate how it has no actual value what so ever
its just a seris of low-row humour that can only dumb down

thats all i can do
dumb down, either my self or others
and i don't want to anymore

if only i was religious
then i could justify running off to become a nun or a monk
they have the right idea
spread the message of love and peace
try and help where you can

we just create worlds of lies

Okay, but here is the thing- in university acknowledged writing tends to be one of two things: it is either low brow humour or "high art". The low humour gets chosen because it is entertaining, and easier for the actors to portray. (Your play had a moral btw, so it wasn't completely low brow). The high art is so convoluded and difficult to follow that the only people who like it either like it because it is high art, or they actually don't understand it and claim they do to look smart.

In the real world, writing can change everything. I mean, it isn't as noticable a change as flinging yourself in front of a bullet to save a little girl, or dying for your religion, but it is there. It is the people who sit at home, numb to everything (and they will exist, no matter what you do) who actually absorb the messages in your writing. It is the writing in TV and Movies and books and plays that people see, that make them think- even if they don't realize they are thinking. It's that thinking that causes change- the martyr helps because he or she gives you some basis for your writing, they stir your thoughts, and in turn you stir the thoughts of your audience, who stirs their friends and so on. That's why the media has so much power. You may not notice it (though really all you have to do is look at the effects of advertising) but you affect people conciously and subconciously through your writing.
(end rant)
